We got an early start and were on the road by 7:15 am. We stopped for breakfast at a Perkins in Rapid City. This one was the more traditional type that we are used to. After breakfast, Denise went into the trailer and found that someone (namely me) didn't close the freezer door all of the way. So there were partially melted ice cubes, all over the floor along with meat, butter, burritos, and whatever else. What a mess! The rest of the trip to Balaton was basically uneventful. I-90 is a rough road, similar to traveling I-5 from Sacramento to Los Angeles. Between that and the 25 mph winds hitting us from about the two o'clock position, we were jostled around pretty good for 300 miles or so. So that combined with our "I'm sick of the truck and ready to get there" attitudes made for a long day. But we made it to our cousins' place right at 5:00 pm. The rest of the family came over and we had a nice visit and plenty of good food and drink. Things wound down and Lynn built a campfire in their outdoor fire ring. We were all hypnotized by the flames. Slowly, people started leaving. Lynn and I were the last two remaining. We finally gave up around 1:00 am. After all, I need my sleep. The big magic show is tomorrow evening at the Liquor Store. |
