Today was just a short 300 jaunt back to our home in Elk Grove, CA. We got up a little later but were still on the road by 10:00 am. Other than a short stop at Wendy's for lunch, we drove straight through and were home by 3:30 pm. It's amazing how much stuff one brings and collects over the course of 6 weeks. There was a lot of stuff to unload, even though we said we'd only unload the basics and save the rest for tomorrow. With both of us working, we still spent nearly two hours getting stuff unloaded and put away in the house. Not to mention the laundry. After 3 loads, Denise decided that was enough for one day. Overall it was a great trip, even with the adversities we experienced in the beginning. The weather was more good than bad. We visited family that we hadn't seen in years. We caught fish. We relaxed. We saw things we hadn't seen before. It was just really nice. I even have to admit that although I'm not (and never will be) embracing the thoughts of going back to work and resuming my normal life where most of my time is spent doing things that are not my first choice, I was ready enough to leave Ten Mile Lake. I'm just looking forward to the day I'm retired and will be able to leave one adventure to start another. But for now, I'm thankful that our situation is such that we can have one adventure a year. Many people don't even get that. |
