We
traveled 432 miles today and landed at the Gold Country RV Park in Elko.
We stayed there for our first night last year as we began our trip to Mount
Rushmore. The trip was basically uneventful with one exception. I
stopped for fuel in Wells, NV. While I was out filling the truck, this
sandstorm blew in. Because I was busy, I didn't see it coming but all of
the sudden, everything went brown. All I could do was turn my back to it
and cover my face while debris pelted my bare legs. I'm sure it lasted a
minute or more as I could no longer take the pain and found refuge behind a
nearby van. I've never experienced anything like it before and could only
imagine what it must have been like to be near the Twin Towers in New York City
when they collapsed.
After we got settled in the RV park, we headed straight for the casinos and
had a fun evening. I continued to find sand in my shoes, socks, pockets,
underwear, ears, hair, etc. from my earlier sandblasting as we played video
poker at the bar. We didn't have a lot of luck but we did have a lot of
drinks. Then we had dinner at the restaurant before returning to the
trailer for the night.
