We made it home safely from our summer vacation however it wasn't much of a "vacation".  We had an endless string of hurdles and issues to overcome that began many weeks before our departure.  We had really hoped that once we arrived at Ten Mile Lake, we'd get to relax but the dark cloud followed us.  You can read all about our trip by clicking here.

So now we're considering our options to increase comfort while RVing.  Our main desires are an RV that doesn't move when parked (no more being shaken out of bed just because someone walked across the floor), a comfortable ride when traveling (the bucking stops here), and an RV that accommodates my large stature (6 1/2 foot ceilings and toilets in a small closet won't cut it).  Denise seems to think a motor home will fix everything but I don't think so.  I'll agree that the ride is probably better as delivered from the factory but serious customization would be required to raise the ceilings.  And since the front space is required for driving the bedroom has to be in the rear.  Thus the only place for the kitchen is in the center and typically, a center kitchen is very small and offers no counter space.

I feel that if a motor home can have a nice ride, so can a truck and trailer package.  High-end motor homes owe their better ride to two factors; air-ride suspension and distance between front and rear axles.  The further back the rear axle is located, the smoother the ride because the "teeter-totter" effect is reduced.  So what are the options for air-ride suspension and 5th wheels with greater distance between kingpin and axles? (Yes, I know greater distance means less maneuverability.  A 5th wheel with moveable axles like on the big rig trailers would be the best of both worlds.)  We plan on visiting RV shows this winter and spring to see what products and innovations are available.
