Back Home Up

Launched out of Garcia Bend on Sunday mid morning. While waiting for the ramp to clear, I was able to talk to many that had been out early. No one would admit to catching anything (and I have no reason to think they were lying other than that they're fishermen ).

I fished downstream from Garcia bend anchored on the inside curve of a bend in about 11 ft. of water with sardine wrapped K14s. My thought was that the current would not be as strong there and thus might be where the salmon preferred to swim. So much for my thinking.

Next I decided to try trolling with a Silvertron. Nothing there either until I was about ready to leave. Then all of a sudden my rod bent down and I gave it a good hard set. Snapped my rod but the tension was still there! However it was just tension but no movement. Further investigation suggested that I had just snagged something on the bottom.

However it did look like a good hole and the fish finder showed some "lines" which might have been fish. I really need to learn how to interpret that thing. According to the owners manual, fish only show as "arches" when the boat is moving but "lines" when it is not. So were they fish? Maybe. Anyway, I anchored above the hole and tied up my backup rod. Then I dropped a Silvertron and while working it into the hole, I snagged again. Fuck it!!! It's late anyway and I need to go home as Lewie is expected to arrive something this afternoon.

But wait. Now I can't pull up anchor either. It's snagged on something. After 15 minutes of playing "Ring Around the Anchor", I finally get lucky and free it.

Back at the ramp, no one reported catching anything. So that was my day on the river.
